Has Eddie Murphy died while out snowboarding? Nope, it’s yet another Twitter hoax

For some while now, a weird internet trend has been gaining more and more ground. Click onto Twitter or Facebook and you’ll be told that some Hollywood actor has snuffed it while out riding.

We’ve got no idea who starts these rumours and why they pick snowboarding, but celebrities who have meant to have passed away while out shredding include Adam Sandler, Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp, Avril Lavigne and most recently Eddie Murphy. Each ‘death’ is accompanied by a YouTube video report of their demise. Yes, of course, they’re all still very much alive.

Eddie’s ‘death’ report is particularly detailed. The report, dated July 11, 2012, claims Eddie, 51, had a fatal collision in Zermatt, Switzerland while snowboarding! What’s more, this is the fourth time Eddie has been reported dead in a snowboarding accident.

We’ve included two videos from YouTube below but they’re not worth clicking on. They’re just of one image with no sound (yet some people actually watched them all the way through).

It must be a spamming thing but it’s a pretty lame joke (and a bad one to play on their families, especially for someone like Avril Lavigne who actually does go riding).

If anyone can explain to us why these fake reports are released, we’d love to know.
